Last week, BIS Abu Dhabi hosted the Abu Dhabi Schools Chess Open for the second successive year. The competition, a team event, involved 55 players from 6 different schools – Amity, BSAK, Cranleigh, Raha, Repton, and BIS Abu Dhabi.
Such is the popularity and relative strength of chess at BIS Abu Dhabi, that we were able to field three teams (of 5 players) in the competition.
BIS Abu Dhabi’s A and B teams won through to the final, after winning their respective groups. BIS Abu Dhabi C, our third team, finished a creditable 9th place, as this was the first inter-school event for some of the players.
BIS Abu Dhabi A won the final 3-2, in a nail-biting finish that went to the last game. Raha A team were third in the competition.
Well done to our teams:
BIS Abu Dhabi A:
Hyomin B., Hanlei G., Jihoo L., Wonsup S., Owen R.
BIS Abu Dhabi B:
Zirui W., Aditeya A., Andrea B., Tuscan J., Barnabas T.
BIS Abu Dhabi C:
Musa M., Patrick C., Junyeong B., Younes L., Adam J.
In the following month we are scheduled to host a House Chess Competition for all interested students at BIS Abu Dhabi (watch this space!).
Last week, Mrs. Stanier, our Head of Humanities, had the pleasure of accompanying three of our amazing students: Tia and Renad from Year 12, and Turkan from Year 10, to Houston, Texas, to take part in the NAE UNICEF summit. We were thrilled to be hosted by one of our Nord Anglia schools, The Village School in Houston, the first Child-Friendly City in the US recognised by UNICEF. The Village School is a boarding school, so the students got to experience what life was like as a boarding student there for the week.
