Hi there! My name is Emily, and I started teaching at BIS Abu Dhabi this academic year in the secondary department of Psychology. As well as teaching Key Stage 4 and 5 Psychology, some of you may know me as your child's Social Studies teacher.
I am from a small town on the outside of Manchester in the UK, which is where I grew up and went to school and sixth form college. When I turned 18, I moved from Manchester to Liverpool to study Forensic Psychology at Liverpool John Moore’s University. I then returned to Manchester to complete my PGCE (teacher training) in Secondary Psychology.
Psychology is an absolute passion of mine, and my guilty pleasure is reality television, but I think this is due to the fact that I just love trying to understand how people behave differently in different situations, as well as trying to explain why.
Much to some of my students/colleagues dismay, I am from a family of BIG Manchester City Football fans and I have been going to games since I was the same age as the FS students here at BIS Abu Dhabi. As well as this, I used to spend a lot of time cheerleading for my university’s cheer team, Liverpool Jets, which many of students don’t actually know about me. We travelled around the country as well as abroad to compete in cheer competitions, which was a lot of fun! My team also won a partial-bid to go and compete at the BCA World Cheerleading Championship, which would have been an amazing opportunity, however we were unable to go due to the dates clashing with our final undergraduate exams.
I am still learning lots about Abu Dhabi, and I’m really curious to learn more about the places I should visit and things that I should do whilst living here, so please let me know if you have any recommendations! I would really appreciate it.
I’m having lots of fun getting to know all of the lovely students and families here at BIS Abu Dhabi and I have been made to feel so welcome – I can’t wait to continue doing what I love here!
Emily Budd
