Message from Head of Secondary; So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu The great Roman philosopher Seneca said “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”. One of the inevitabilities of life is change and international schools are not immune to this.

The great Roman philosopher Seneca said “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end”. One of the inevitabilities of life is change and international schools are not immune to this.

Each year, families face the exciting challenge of moving countries for work; some coming to Abu Dhabi and others moving from Abu Dhabi, both to pastures new. The same is true of staff, and this year I include myself in this group. One of the many exciting aspects of being a teacher is the ability to work internationally; the world is literally our oyster.

Each school is different but BIS Abu Dhabi is especially so. The students, staff and parent body work so harmoniously well to make our community so special, welcoming, warm and yet able to achieve academic and co-curricular highs that rival the successes of any other school in the region. We have so much of which to be proud.

With only 2 weeks remaining of this academic year, it is easy to look forward to the long-awaited summer break ahead. However, take a few minutes to reflect on this year and all that has been achieved both inside and outside of school. Given that we manage to accomplish so much during the year, it will quite possibly take more than a few minutes! The Yearbook is a good place to begin your reverie.

As I write my final newsletter article, I find myself reminiscing on 3 rewarding, enjoyable and enriching years at BIS Abu Dhabi. The students I have taught or have spoken with have been some of the most articulate and well-rounded of my career so far and to all of them, I wish the best of luck for their bright futures ahead. The dedicated, experienced and caring staff (past and present) have been a joy to work with. Without their commitment to continuous improvement and professionalism, the secondary school would not have made the strong progress it has to date. Parents, and I am proud to have become part of this group recently, want the very best for their children. By enrolling at BIS Abu Dhabi, the education part of this wish is assured, and I say this as an unbiased, worldly-wise and experienced educator.

Whether you are staying at BIS Abu Dhabi or moving further afield, please remain honest, kind and respectful for these 3 characteristics will stand you in good stead for your journey ahead.

So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, Adieu
