As we near the end of the Holy month of Ramadan, it has been a pleasure both observing and listening to our students sharing their experiences of this special time. You will no doubt be aware that UAE have also published their dates for the Eid Al-Fitr religious holiday. Eid Al-Fitr is often referred to as the breaking of the fast and marks the end of Ramadan and the Islamic holy month of fasting. The holiday celebrates the conclusion of the 29 or 30 days of dawn to sunset fasting during the entire month of Ramadan. The day of Eid therefore falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal.
On the first day of Eid, it is traditional for families to gather for Eid prayers and then to spend time with family members and friends, often exchanging gifts with each other. To those of us who are guests within the country, it reminds us of how fortunate we are to experience and celebrate these special times together in the Year of Tolerance. To the rulers of the country and all of our families who are nearing the completion of Ramadan and looking forward to Eid, we wish you Eid Mubarak and look forward to your return after the holiday.
