It is every parent’s nightmare. It is their waking thought, their final concern. It influences every thought and decision from the moment their child is born, to the moment they are no longer with them: is my child safe? Is my child healthy? Are they hungry, thirsty, hot, cold, sick, tired, happy, sad, but above all, is my child safe?
We here at BIS Abu Dhabi are all lucky enough for the answer to this fundamental and critical question to be ‘yes’, but there are hundreds of millions of people who battle with this question every day, and most times the answer comes out negative. The saddest part is that most of these people can be helped, and not enough action is being taken to do so; hence we, BIS Abu Dhabi, are leading a campaign in partnership with the Red Crescent with the ambitious but highly achievable goal of sending necessities such as blankets and clothes to the families suffering in Syria, in an effort to give more mothers a reason to say ‘yes’ to that paramount, fundamental question.
Starting this week, we need all of you to bring in all the unwanted clothes, blankets, scarves, shawls, and wraps you can carry. The items that you bring in (they must be of a good quality) will be sent to the Red Crescent, and consequently to the desperate families in Syria.
No matter how small, each donation will make a massive difference in the lives of the Syrians that have been destroyed and ripped apart by the war that has ravaged their country. They need us, and with enough of your donations and enough of your help, we can greatly influence the answer to that fundamental question by providing them with warmth and comfort, in a time where these things are few and far between.
Please drop off all your donations at Front Reception at the beginning of the school day. Our appeal will run until 28th of May.
From all the Red Crescent volunteers here in BIS Abu Dhabi – thank you so much in advance.

At The British International School Abu Dhabi, we believe that education is not just about academic success—it’s about nurturing compassionate, responsible young people who understand the importance of giving back. This Ramadan, I have been truly moved by the way our students have embraced the spirit of the holy month, demonstrating kindness, generosity, and a genuine commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
Inspired by the latest Nord Anglia INSIGHTS article exploring why the Early Years are the most important years of a child’s education, we know that a child’s most significant learning happens during this time - in ways that are not always immediately visible.
