During the keynote speeches, I could feel how the audience was moved by personal stories of struggle, as well as inspiring messages of breaking stigma, overcoming adversity and becoming better global citizens. My main takeaway from this conference was that we all have potential to make impactful and positive contributions to society. Take initiative, and make things happen.

Last weekend, our students (Bhadra, Vienna, Angela, Proudputh, Sreya,  Kavin, Phatchita and Hay) and our teachers (Ms Dua and Mr Wright) took part in the 12th annual servICE conference held at Berkeley International School, Bangkok this year. ServICE is a student led conference that Inspires, Connects and Empowers (servICE) students to take part in community service and discuss current issues.

Our students took part in various Burst Your Bubble (BYB) trips dedicated to pushing students out of their comfort zone and provide an act of service by working with charities such as Abundant Life, Second Chance, Wastegetables and The Ruth Centre to name a few. Students were involved in activities ranging from clean-up projects to working with disabled animals, as well as spending time with the elderly in some of the most deprived areas of Bangkok.

The weekend also included inspiring keynote speeches from famous speakers including Conservationist Viví Sriaram, BBC Correspondent and Head of South East Asia, Jonathan Head and Disability Advocate and YouTube influencer, Vahen King, along with moving speeches from students on the personal journey towards making a change.

This was an incredible weekend where students gained confidence, learned of the power of their own voice and the potential they have to make positive contributions to society.
