Known as the Regents International Study and English (RISE) Programme, the course is aimed at students aged between 15 and 17 who are looking for a fulfilling academic experience but need to improve their English language skills at the same time. It will be the first and only course of its kind available on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand.
Students accepted onto RISE will spend 40% of their timetable in intensive English language classes and 60% studying a range of academic subjects, including Mathematics, Business Studies, ICT, Art and Development Studies. For those who perform well over the year, RISE will give access to the school’s International Baccalaureate Diploma course and then universities around the world.
The project is being led by the school’s Head of Secondary, Garry Russell. “We are taking an increasing number of applications from students who want to join our two-year IB Diploma programme, whose underlying academic attainment is good but who do not have the English language skills to tackle such a demanding curriculum. It is disappointing for us to have to turn away students who want to attend Regents and achieve very highly – RISE will now give them the pathway they need. The development of this programme is another example of how, with the support of our parent company Nord Anglia Education, we are becoming innovators in international education in Thailand.”
