Northbridge International School Cambodia Grade 9 is ready to present their community project, a journey of exploration and service learning undertaken by our students since November 2023.
Aligned with the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) mission to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring individuals, this project aims to foster a deeper understanding of students' rights and responsibilities as global citizens while inspiring a commitment to community service.
The project progresses through distinct stages, beginning with an investigation into the needs of various communities. This research phase equips students with valuable insights into societal challenges and prompts critical thinking about potential solutions.
Students usually find this stage to be challenging as they are constantly reminded that knowing the communities is key to understanding their needs and bringing impactful solutions. This stage then became one with different iterations until they found the one!
After investigating, students transition to the planning stage, where they devise strategies and allocate responsibilities for their service initiatives. This phase not only hones organizational skills but also fosters teamwork and leadership among students.
The Action stage marks the implementation of students' plans, as they actively engage in service activities designed to address identified needs within their communities. Through hands-on experience, students develop empathy, resilience, and a sense of social responsibility.
Finally, the Reflection stage provides students with an opportunity to articulate their thoughts, emotions, and learnings from the project. This introspective process fosters self-awareness and encourages continued growth and learning.
We aim to use the MYP Community Project to help students in their investigation, action and reflection throughout their learning journey and hope this helps them to hone the skills needed to complete the next challenge: the Personal Project in Grade 10.
As we approach the showcase of our students' projects and presentation of conclusions, we anticipate witnessing the profound impact of their efforts on both the local and global community.
By nurturing empathy, critical thinking, and a commitment to service, this project lays the foundation for our students to become compassionate and socially responsible leaders of tomorrow.
Good luck to our Grade 9 students with their presentations starting Monday!
