Welcome to the update from the Northbridge International School Cambodia Parent Council, which follows their regular meeting and discussion. Here are the topics that were addressed at the latest meeting.
Upcoming school events
At the meeting, parents were informed on upcoming school events for February. These are:
Cleaning of the tennis courts
It was suggested that the tennis courts at the Sports Hall be given a thorough cleaning every Monday morning due to tennis courts being used by NBC residents during weekends.
Mosquitos and storage at the Primary Cafeteria
It seems that mosquitos are everywhere this time of year. The campus is sprayed externally twice weekly and mosquito traps have been placed in some areas. Parents are requesting that the Primary Cafeteria stage area be sprayed to protect students taking part in LEAP drama activities. This matter will be discussed with the Facilities Manager.
Mr Richard also updated that as soon as the rebuilding of the store room and maintenance workshop is finished, the store rooms at the back of the stage will be arranged to properly store school IT and performing arts materials.
LEAP drama activity
Each student must be charged a certain amount for the LEAP drama activity, the cost of which must include costumes, set designs, and so on. As was done previously with the Swim Team, it was suggested that students sign contracts to commit their time and effort for the entirety of the activity.
Splash pool at the Aquatics Centre
The splash pool at the new Aquatics Centre is designed to encourage fun and confidence, where the children can swim and play on the deck area. Early Learning students will be allowed to use the big pool once the swim coach has determined that they are competent enough.
Food and drinks standards
To ensure that all food and drink being sold in the Cafeteria conform with the NISC food standards, the new catering team has been provided with a copy. Interested parents can also read it here: Northbridge Food Standards
Parking area
In the school's ongoing effort to reinforce good behavior at the parking area (standards for drivers, cones at offloading areas, cameras installed), it has been observed that some cars are still double parked. The management of security contractor GSS has been reminded again of their responsiblities.
Cover for absent teachers
For short term cover, the absent teacher is responsible for providing class planning and lessons to the person who will cover her/his classes for the day. Typically, teachers from other departments who have spare time are asked to cover these lessons. For long-term covers, the school finds a specialist.
Monitoring teachers
The school has a rigorous system of performance management where teachers meet with appraisers on a regular basis to review progress, lessons observed and feedback given. This system is the international standard used at all 69 Nord Anglia schools worldwide.
