Natashia Ma, Parent Council Chairperson

Secondary Cafeteria

Due to hot weather, the Parent Council (PC) suggests the school install air-conditioning in the Secondary cafeteria and place fans in the outside covered area where the students sit and eat lunch. The PC hopes that this can be done during the coming summer holiday.

Lost and Found

Some parents gave feedback that, on occasion, when their children forget things at school, they are unable to find the forgotten or lost items, even at the designated lost and found collection areas in the Primary and Secondary offices. The PC suggests the following:

- Remind local staff to take any items they find on campus to the lost and found areas

- Any lunch boxes and water bottles left at the Cafeteria should be placed back on the lunch-box table so that students can collect them the next day. If no one collects them after one day, the cafeteria staff should then bring these items to the lost and found area

- The school could take weekly pictures of the items left at the lost and found area to show and remind students to take back their belongings, before removing them if not claimed

Of course, the school also hopes parents can help educate their children to take better care of their own belongings, and also to not bring any expensive items to school.

Student Behavior

The PC has noted that some of our Secondary students do not behave themselves properly during sports tournaments against other schools, sometimes lying on the floor playing on their phone during the competition, instead of sitting properly, watching and cheering for the match. Sometimes students also lay their legs across tables or chairs.

We hope that the school can constantly remind our students on the importance of properly behaving themselves, especially when they are representing the school. Our students should have social awareness of what kind of personal behavior is appropriate in public.

Food Variety

Since outside food deliveries are no longer allowed, students and parents are looking for more food variety at school, such as allowing Café Blends or Rainbow to sell things like waffles and muffins. Of course, those items should meet with the school food standards.

Boy Scouts

The PC has asked whether our school could introduce Boy Scouts to our students, and Mr Richard has responded that if we can find the right leader, the school could consider adding this to out LEAP program. If you have any ideas on this, please feel free to share it with us at pc@nisc.edu.kh

Looking for New PC Khmer Co-Chairperson

It has been my honor to be the PC Chairperson this school year, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents that have ever been involved with the Parent Council. Without your participation, my job wouldn't have been nearly as fun. I would also like to thank Mr Richard for his patience, and ongoing support for the PC.

I will be continue to be the Chairperson in the new school year, but we are looking for a Khmer parent to be the Co-Chair for better communication among Khmer parents. If you are interested in this position, please e-mail me at pc@nisc.edu.kh
