We make air quality management part of a bigger 'green' agenda at NAS Jakarta, where we think about how to lead more eco-friendly lives. Environmental education and conservation are a big focus at our school, and we want parents to help us with this important agenda.
AQ Index and protocols for indoor and outdoor learning
We monitor pollution levels closely on a regular basis during the course of each school day to determine whether it's safe to have outside activities for students and staff. We follow the data from the U.S Embassy air quality meter in South Jakarta. We also monitor AQ levels collected from indoor AQ monitors at different locations within our school, and we take advice from the most reliable devices on the market. You can read about our procedures in our 'Clean Air Plan'.
Knowledge gathering and sharing
We collaborate with other international schools in Jakarta – and with the Nord Anglia family of schools – to share knowledge and best practice. We seek input from specialists in the field to gain a better understanding of the risks and to guide our air quality management at NAS Jakarta. For example, we look at the best monitoring devices, the effectiveness of HEPA filters, and the impact and costs of air purifiers in classrooms. We're also fortunate to have a wonderful campus with many plants and trees known for purifying the surrounding air.
Environmental policy and action plan
We're working with students, parents, and staff to create an 'Environmental Policy and Action Plan' for Nord Anglia School Jakarta. This policy will put environmental awareness at the forefront of our strategic planning as a school. A student 'Eco Committee' will also lead our school towards Eco School Accreditation, challenging us to look for improvements in our practices in relation to energy, waste, water, transport, healthy living, environmental protection, and global citizenship (following the UN Sustainable Development Goals).
