You may remember our student Yuhan (Happy) Z, from previous posts about his extra-curricular activities, and it’s been another eventful and highly successful summer for him! His participation in various meaningful activities truly highlights his academic and artistic abilities.
First and foremost, congratulations to Happy for earning Grand Honours/SET at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) in the 2023-2024 academic year. This year’s CTY exams saw thousands of talented students from across the globe take part, and Happy stood out with an impressive score of 484, showcasing his extraordinary skills and talents. After excelling in his school and university aptitude tests, Happy took part in the Johns Hopkins summer camp, where he studied a fascinating course called "The Edible World." During this program, Happy actively contributed to class discussions and offered thoughtful insights on complex topics. His strong grasp of chemistry and anatomy, particularly the digestive system, was impressive, going beyond the course’s core concepts.
In assignments related to the digestive system and the five senses, Happy demonstrated a deep understanding of the material, mastering advanced topics such as the Lewis dot structure and the periodic table of elements. His lab work was equally outstanding, successfully applying classroom knowledge to experiments like the Fizz Whiz soda-making and stomach acid neutralization projects. He kept meticulous lab notes and excelled in teamwork, earning high praise from his instructor for his collaborative spirit and his readiness to assist classmates.
Beyond his academic achievements, Happy also shone artistically. At the Huangpu Theatre, he played a key role in a Chinese theater production, collaborating closely with the cast and crew. This experience not only refined his acting skills but also deepened his appreciation for teamwork and cooperation. His artistic talent and love for group activities further enrich his personal growth, making him a versatile and well-rounded individual.
Happy’s summer accomplishments reflect his hard work, dedication, and passion for learning. He not only excelled in both academics and the arts but also demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills in various fields. We are incredibly proud of his achievements and eagerly anticipate his continued academic and artistic growth.
Happy has embodied the values of the school and showcased his ability to be creative, confident and considerate, and we encourage all students and parents to share their own stories and successes as we celebrate the diverse talents within our community.
