NAIS Pudong Scholarships
We are excited to announce the implementation of two new programmes in our school, both of which will greatly benefit our students’ reading development: Accelerated Reader and Star Reading Assessment.
Accelerated Reader is a fun, child-centered computer programme that provides responsive online quizzes for children to enjoy after they have finished reading books of their choice. Each quiz, typically completed on an iPad, measures students’ comprehension and broader understanding of reading material, whilst simultaneously reinforcing central themes and ideas from selected texts.
Featuring thousands of quizzes in response to a wide variety of genres, this programme caters to all Primary reading levels from ‘Easy Readers’ to ‘Challenging Reads’, ensuring that all students can participate meaningfully. In turn, Accelerated Reader enables both our teaching team, and parents, to track individual students’ progress, as well as their reading content.
Synchonising with Accelerated Reader, Star Reading Assessment will be utilised by our teaching team for students in Years 2 – 6, to track progress over time and inform appropriate independent text choices. Based on advanced learning algorithms that reference statistical models, this online programme enables educators to create individualised reading plans for every student. In so doing, we aim to further cater to specific areas for development for every individual young reader in our care.
Beyond academic progress, Accelerated Reader and Star Reading Assessment are designed to support students’ independent book choices and increase students’ satisfaction in reading. With both of these platforms supplementing engaging Reading lessons in school, as well as parents’ support with daily reading at home, we are excited to further kindle and develop a life-long passion for reading within every one of our students.
