NAIS Manila Secondary School will be focusing even more on STEAM-based learning.
[[\media\VID_20190816_102004.mp4]]STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics.
It is a learning method that focuses on student-led interdisciplinary approaches to real life problems and challenges.
Our hope is that by focusing on STEAM, we will be able to nurture creativity, curiosity, and innovation in your children, as well as develop the skills within them which are currently considered in short supply in the evolving science and technology industry.
We started this off by setting a challenge to the students on the first day of school. They were given a cardboard tube and were told to make it into anything that they wish.
This challenge is known as “Hack the Tube,” and is similar to challenges set by world-renowned universities like MIT, Oxford and Cambridge in their application process for prospective students.
The outcome of the exercise was excellent!
The students created some brilliant and ambitious work, which included prosthetic hands, new forms of transport, and a robot that collects waste plastics from the ocean.
Mr. Kirkham was so impressed that he chose three teams to build life-sized, fully functioning prototypes of their projects.
Well done, NAIS Manila Secondary!
