Dear Parents,
After a busy and successful first week back, our students are now setting goals for Term 3.
This week in school, Form Tutors will be running in-school mentoring for our students. Mentoring is a powerful tool that helps students navigate challenges, set goals, and develop important life skills. Regular teacher-student conversations about their interests, aspirations, and academic progress provide valuable insights and foster stronger relationships. Please do discuss these important conversations with your children at home.
ECA’s begin once again this week, well done to all students who are challenging themselves and trying new extra-curricular activities. In this week’s episode we will highlight some of the successes of our students from last week.
SPORTING UPDATE
U14 B Boys Badminton Semi and Finals for ISSFHK
The U14 boys consisting of Jaxton, Seb, Preston, Tony, Marcus & Jasper faced WIS in their semifinal. Despite the grit and determination shown by all, WIS finished strong and secured their place in the 1st/2nd game. NAISHK entered the 3rd/4th final with 3rd place medals up for grabs for the winner. The boys dug deep and after a few close games took the victory 3-2 games. It was a pleasure watching the boys grow and develop throughout the season and the third-place medals were well deserved! Fantastic work boys!
Our U14 boys A team travelled to German Swiss international School on Tuesday 16th April in good spirits ahead of their semifinal against King George V school. Hoi Hei, Ruskin and Han Han were tasked with taking on the singles matches, whilst Kyson, Wallace and Winston contributed as part of the double's pairings. A fierce and highly skilled KGV team produced a formidable display meaning they won 5-0 in games. Not to be disheartened our team faced Christian Alliance International School for the bronze medal. In a tightly contested series of games, our boys won 3-2 to round off a very positive season with some well-earned bronze medals! Great work boys.
Our girls U14 team were successful in qualifying for the finals also. Unfortunately, illness meant that they were unable to meet league criteria and so had to forfeit their games. This was a real shame as the team had performed very well and had a strong chance to qualify for the gold medal match. They did, however, travel to GSIS and play friendly games as part of the finals event. Hopefully, they will get the chance to put this right next year!
ISSFHK Track and Field Senior Championships
On Wednesday 17th April our U16 track and field team went to TKO athletics stadium to compete in the finals of their events. We are still waiting for the overall results to be sent through to us, but we had some noticeable performances from Noah Reid who jumped 1.55m in the high jump and Morgan Hansen who threw close to 10m in the Shot Putt.
ISSFHK Track and Field Junior Championships
On Thursday 18th April, our U12 and U14 track and field teams went to TKO athletics stadium to compete in the finals of the events. Unfortunately, the event was cancelled due to the rain in the late morning. We are awaiting the results from the competition and will update you once they have been sent through by the competition organisers.
Well done to Clarice C (U12 girls) who competed in her 800m event despite the rain.
YEAR 6 PARENTS COFFEE MORNINGOn Tuesday morning we were delighted to welcome parents of Year 6 students for a coffee morning and presentation about the forthcoming transition to Kwun Tong. Mrs Reid led the presentation that covered topics such as key members of staff, the structure of the school day, our secondary uniform, and our BYOD MacBook policy. Parents were invited to ask questions and Mrs Thorndike, Mrs Reid and Mr Malone answered these with topics including the use of school buses, making future examination choices and homework.
All parents with children making the transition from Lam Tin to Kwun Tong this summer will receive a parent handbook later this term that will have a wealth of information that will answer many of the questions that you will have.
Our IT team will also be in touch during this term about the opportunity to purchase an Apple MacBook through our partners at SENCO. Parents are not obliged to use this provider.
YEAR 11 AND 13 LAST DAY/CELEBRATIONYear 11
On Friday, our wonderful Year 11 students entered their final lessons of the academic year before embarking on their examination journey. Prior to this, and to mark their last day as KS4 pupils, students gathered in the Auditorium to enjoy the Year 11 Celebration Assembly. Here, they received words of encouragement and motivation from Mrs. Thorndike and their class teachers, enjoyed a fabulous musical performance by our very own Leonardo Pillot, student votes for ‘The Student Most Likely To...’ by their peers were revealed, music and mathematics certificates awarded and much more! A particular highlight for the students was a trip down memory lane via a memory montage of their favourite high school moments and looking at how much they’ve grown since the beginning of their time at NAISHK.
We wish our fabulous Class of 2024 all the very best in their upcoming examinations and remind them that we are here to support them through the entire process.
Year 13 Final Day
On Friday 19th April we celebrated the last day of formal school for our Year 13s at NAISHK.
This began we a final #FiresideFriday where students listened to an enthralling talk from IT Entrepreneur, Mr Marner.
He talked to our students about his experiences of following his passions and interests which culminated in him setting up a highly successful IT Business.
#FiresideFriday 19th April
The Year 13s then embarked on their final day of school in positive spirits, ready to say ‘thank you’ for the support they have received from their teachers over the past two years.
On Friday afternoon Year 13 students had a final assembly to celebrate their achievements at NAISHK and to reflect on their experiences. This was followed by some music and photos with peers and teachers.
Year 13 students will be on campus from 24th April to 17th May completing their IB final examinations. We also look forward to a final celebration with students as a community at their official Year 13 Graduation on the afternoon of the 30th May.
Good luck with your upcoming IB examinations Year 13!
