Class of 2021 IBDP Graduation

On Thursday afternoon we held our first IBDP Graduation Ceremony. It was a very special event that brought together our ten graduating Year 13 students, their parents, DP teachers and senior staff. We were also honoured to welcome back our Founding Principal, Mr Cooklin, and Mrs Cooklin to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2021.

During the ceremony, we were treated to several heartfelt and uplifting speeches. Mr Duncan congratulated the students on their hard work and perseverance, exhorting them to “Be brave, push the envelope, dare to take risks”. He was followed by Ms Simpson, our IB Diploma Co-ordinator, who described the students’ rollercoaster ride through the Diploma - from taking their first nervy steps to expertly navigating school closures, virtual learning and, most recently, their final examinations. The speech, which was full of warmth and insight, closed with some touching tributes from the graduates’ parents.

Skilfully delivered by Velvet, the Year 13’s own speech included some amusing anecdotes from their last two years at school. Listening to these words, it was clear to all present that through these uncertain times we live in, these young trailblazers have grown as individuals and are destined to have huge success at university, too.

As is customary at such events, the Principal presented each of the Year 13 graduates with a certificate to recognise the successful completion of their Post-16 programme of study. To rapturous applause, Maisie and Velvet were then called up to the stage to receive the Creativity, Activity and Service Award and Founding Principal’s Award respectively.

This inaugural graduation ceremony was a fitting end to our Year 13 students’ educational journey with us and it will last long in the memory.
