Nord Anglia International School is the first school in Hong Kong to collaborate with The Juilliard School, the world renowned performing arts conservatory based in New York.
Juilliard School has recently been ranked the world’s best university for the study of performing arts, according to QS World University Rankings. The innovative new collaboration, The Juilliard – Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme, is an embedded arts curriculum developed by specialists from Juilliard, along with continued support from, and engagement with, Juilliard alumni and affiliated artists.
To celebrate the launch of the curriculum, Nord Anglia International School held a "Celebration of Music" concert on Friday 17 June featuring Juilliard alumni and piano duo, Anderson and Roe, as well as involving pupils and parents. Greg Anderson and Elizabeth Joy Roe, known for their adrenalized performances, formed their music partnership in 2002 as students of The Juilliard School and have, since then, toured extensively worldwide with weeks at the top of the Billboard Classical Charts.
Brian Cooklin, Principal of Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong said, “The Juilliard School shares our vision for the value of the performing arts to society, and we strongly believe the curriculum will equip our pupils with the skills needed to excel in their future careers.”
The music curriculum is designed for all students, not just those who are serious about learning an instrument or musical performance. It aims to nurture cultural literacy and develop skills in students such as discipline, creativity and confidence that will enable them to succeed anywhere in the world once they have left school.
Nord Anglia and Juilliard are also launching a performing arts summer programme. The first two-week programme will be held in Switzerland in July 2016 and will include drama, dance, voice and instrumental tuition. It will be open to students from non-Nord Anglia schools.
