Our Secondary Year 8 students went off to Sai Kung for a 2 day-1 night camping trip. Here's the round up from our Head of Year 7 and 8, Mrs. Reid:
“Now that the bonfire has died down, the tents have been packed away and the pupils (and teachers!) have caught up with their sleep, we have been able to spend some time reflecting on our experience in this year's team challenge. Everyone involved in the camping trip agreed that not only was it tremendous fun but also an important lesson in team building, cooperation and leadership, with a good dose of orienteering skills thrown in too …
At the beginning of the day, many of the pupils were taken aback at the idea of having to hike 6km carrying not only their overnight provisions but sleeping bags, tents and roll mats too. Once they had recovered from the shock however, all of the pupils embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and were soon well on their way with big smiles on their faces. We're glad to say that these smiles remained for the whole trip!
All of the teams managed to successfully orientate themselves to the Chong Hing Watersports Centre in the beautiful Sai Kung Country Park which was to be our campsite for the night, solving clues and team challenges along the way. Once there, the tents were quickly put up and there was even time for some team games before the serious business of cooking dinner began. Although not quite Michelin starred cuisine, everyone went to bed well fed and happy after a session around the campfire. Most had a decent night's sleep before it was up early to pack up camp and return to school, tired but very happy with lots of great memories to share!
After much deliberation and examination of evidence, Mr and Mrs Reid decided that whilst all of the teams were brilliant, the victorious one in the end was Team Doherty for completing the course the in the quickest time and taking the best photos of their adventures along the way. Well done Azamat, Jean, Kayci, Lucia, Ryan and last but not least... Mr Doherty on a fantastic effort!"
