SECONDARY SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLANS
Thank you to all the parents who braved a Red Rainstorm to come to Mr Cooklin’s presentation on our Secondary School Development Plan. We have prepared a Frequently Asked Questions document (attached) which we hope will cover the majority of your questions about the proposed Phase 2 extension in our Lam Tin school, as well as the powerpoint on “What a Nord Anglia Secondary School Look Life for Your Child” that Mr Cooklin presented. Please note that we are preparing a Chinese translation of both these documents which we will share next week.

FEED HONG KONG – FOOD DRIVE BY CAERNARVON HOUSE
As you’ll know, each of our Houses supports a local charity. Students in Caernarvon House would like to invite all the school to get involved in their Food Drive project and a letter went home in your child’s bag today from Head of House, Naomi Rowan. I’ve attached it here as well. It’s an excellent project that encourages all our students to bring in non-perishable food products (a list of suitable product can be found in the attached letter). We look forward to the other Houses launching similar initiatives.

REMINDER: JOIN A VIRTUAL BALLOON RACE – Click here

We hope that you’ve had a chance to discuss this interesting project with your child that combines science, charity and fun! The charity ‘Care for Children’ is inviting students from around the world to buy a virtual balloon. Once you have your balloon you have to carefully decorate it, choose the thickness of the balloon and how much to blow it up. On 8 June, the virtual balloons owned by students around the world will be “released” from the Great Wall of China. The challenge is to ensure that you balloon flies the highest and furthest without popping!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY IN SUPPORTING THE VICTIMS OF THE NEPAL EARTHQUAKE
Another amazing effort from our generous NAIS families who donated HK$25,219 to the Nepal Earthquake Appeal of the Disasters Emergency Committee. We do feel that supporting those less fortunate than ourselves both here in Hong Kong and overseas is an important part of our school philosophy.

NO MOBILE PHONES DURING SCHOOL HOURS
Mr Cooklin would like to remind all students that mobile phones must stay in bags and on silent, or turned off, during school hours. Your child may turn them on after school hours (2.45pm for Primary and 3.30pm for Secondary). Children will be reminded by their teachers and their mobile phones will be confiscated for the day (returned at the end of school) if the children break this important rule.

FRIDAY ASSEMBLY – STAR OF THE WEEK (GEOGRAPHY) + COBIS SUPERSTARSClick for photos
Today’s assembly was a wonderful celebration of achievement and heart!

First of all we celebrated the full COBIS Squad who all showed the determination, team spirit and great sportsmanship that made us all proud. Our PE Department, Martin Pate, Deri Reid and James Malone, together with Katie Byrne also wanted to say a huge thank you to the parents of the COBIS team who presented them with a bag of Greek Goodies to thank them for their efforts in training and supporting the team in Athens.

The whole school then congratulated our Stars of the Week in Geography:
Year 1: Charlie Burns, Fred Oliver, Teo Vourloumis, Kees Espeskog, Kyle Chan
Year2: Bair Batomunkuev, Ethan Lau, William Drud, Hampton Wang, Hyeonseo Oh
Year 3: Rebecca Gao, Kyle Chan, Audrey Lai, Ian Cho
Year 4: Cedric Lau, Justin Huang, Leo Han, Elijah Herron
Year 5: Bobby Li, Kenan Little, Kendrick Chan
Year 6: Isaac Voon, Annabel Lai
Year 7: Rebecca Chen, Andrew Chim

And a special thank you to Michelle (Year 5) who played the piano beautifully as we all came into the Hall.

LOST PROPERTY/UNIFORM
Would parents please be able to look at the labels in their child’s jackets and caps. We’ve had some items that have been clearly named, but have still gone missing!

LUNCH UPDATE – MORE HEALTHY OPTIONS
We have been making some changes to the lunches and snacks on offer in our cafeteria to add more healthy choices. We’ll be limiting jelly to one day a week (sorry children!) and instead offering more fruit cups, yoghurts and cheese and crackers. We’re also looking at a fresh juicing machine. If you’ve not ordered your lunch for June yet, please remember to check the menu and order form online.

Enjoy your long weekend and we look forward to seeing you all back on Tuesday.
