Over the last two years our Primary students have worked on a number of ‘green’ projects to increase awareness of how we might protect the planet and our immediate environment.
We're committed to finding practical solutions that we can all adopt on a day-to-day basis in order to make our school greener and more sustainable: for example we periodically run food waste weigh-ins at lunch time in our school dining hall and we've noticed that the amount of waste has decreased dramatically since the first time we did this. Our students are encouraged to think about simple strategies they can adopt at home and in school to avoid wasting food, and it's working!
What steps can we take to be...
A zero waste school:
Reduce waste and increase recycling, waste-free lunches, compost, worm bin, grow our own.
Water Savvy:
Raising awareness about global water issues, water bottle policy. Our school uses water saving automatic taps to reduce water wastage and solar panels to heat water.
Local and Organic:
Support our local farmers, grow our own, learn how to "read" food labels, measuring carbon footprint.
Eco-smart consumers:
Fabric awareness, zero waste packaging, learn about the life cycle of products, smart consumer choices.
Do less, be more:
Offer yoga classes, sensory garden, healthy eating. Our school has integrated mindfulness into the Primary curriculum.
We'd like to learn to...
