Prior to last Christmas, I drafted a rather ambitious and optimistic wish list of achievements for the festive season. This list included students all going home happy for Christmas with a lovely set of Mock Examination results to showcase the vast progress that they had made during the festive season. It also included things like not burning the Christmas pudding; and of course, not making a fool of myself on Moscow's infamous winter ice and snow. What I could not have possibly imagined in my wildest dreams however, was just how successful the COBIS Manga High competition would be in our school's debut year.

Entering the competition for the first time, Rosinka and Krylatskoye campuses produced a massively successful collaboration, taking the contest by surprise and storm, as we surged to 4th place out of 62 schools after the first few days, before finally pushing on for an unbelievable first place finish and gloriously snatching the crown at the dead.

This year, buoyed on by the prospect of House points, medals and other scholarly glories, students embarked upon defending what was seen to be rightfully ours. To do so, students across all campuses could be seen completing a multitude of engaging mathematical tasks and activities on the Manga High website to earn 'medal points'. All students who earned 150 medal points, earned the right to real life medallions. Indeed, over the past few weeks, ISM has been gripped even more so than last year by a massive project to reclaim the much coveted COBIS Manga High trophy. Although we did not win the competition this year, we more than made a valiant effort, coming third in the entire world with our students actually winning 15,729 more medal points than last year. Medallions are being awarded to 161 hard working medal winners across all campuses.

Here's to even more Manga High success next year!

If anyone was worried that the older students may have lost their mathematical midas touch over the past term, they can take a deep breath, because we just been awarded nineteen bronze, silver and gold certificates in the highly competitive and renowned, annual UKMT Maths Challenge. Only the top 40% of all British A Level Mathematics students win certificates of any form in this competition and we are immensely proud of our sixth formers' high achievements.

A special mention goes to Yudam Son, who only failed to answer two questions in the entire competition, thereby qualifying for the prestigious British International Olympiad. The score puts Yudam well within the top thousand students nationally, building on her incredible top sixty finish in last year's challenge. Well done Yudam!
