Busy Start to the ISM Football Season The beginning of the 2018 football season at ISM has been the busiest yet with a total of seventeen fixtures and students competing in tournaments across all age groups. Attendance at training, games and tournaments is at an all-time high. Big improvements have also been made in terms of both performance and our teams’ ethos. Hero Image _MS Girls copy

The beginning of the 2018 football season at ISM has been the busiest yet with a total of seventeen fixtures and students competing in tournaments across all age groups. Attendance at training, games and tournaments is at an all-time high. Big improvements have also been made in terms of both performance and our teams’ ethos.

The Middle School Boys’ team started the season with some heavy defeats against AAS. However, as the season progressed, thanks to performances displaying true grit and determination, results have improved with every game. ‘Super Sunday’ proved to be a highlight for the team when they produced their best performances, narrowly losing 3-2 in the final. Well done boys!

Thanks to the tremendous enthusiasm and commitment of our girls in Key Stages 4 and 5, this is the first year that ISM has fielded a full 11-a-side High School girls’ team. The girls started with a 3-0 defeat against AAS. Two weeks later they reduced the deficit to 2-0 and then finished the season with 3rd place in the ‘Super Sunday’ tournament. Last but not least, the girls came joint-first with Hinkson Academy in the ISM High School Tournament.

This year we have a great sporting ethos at ISM. This spirit is epitomised by our High School boys’ football team. They train and play with true passion. What is more, they display a great team spirit, both on and off the pitch. The boys started the season with a 2-0 and 2-1 defeats against AAS. However, following their victory against Hinkson Academy in the ISM Tournament, the boys came back refreshed and reinvigorated to record a 2-2 draw against AAS. The team continues to go from strength to strength and go into their final fixture of the season on November the 2nd with high hopes that they will record their first victory of the season.

Last, but by no means least, we come to our Middle School girls’ football team. Dominant from the start, the girls have demonstrated superb prowess on the football pitch, beating AAS 3-2, 4-0 and 5-0 with two separate ISM teams gaining both 1st and 2nd place in the ‘Super Sunday’ Tournament. What a fantastic season this has been for these girls!

As the Head of Physical Education at ISM I am extremely proud, not just of our students performances, but also of their attitude, sportsmanship and commitment to our sporting community. I would also like to mention our team of football coaches, Miss Graceffa, Mr Henderson, Mr Parker, Mr Davis, Mr Casey and Mr Ho who give up their lunchtimes, evenings and weekends for our teams. Thank you very much for your dedication, commitment and enthusiasm for ISM sport.
