In today’s increasingly globalized world, strong communication skills are more important than ever. For parents navigating a new country and language, this challenge can feel daunting. That’s why our Parent English Club exists: to provide a welcoming space where parents not only learn English but also build lasting relationships and a sense of community.
The Parent English Club is a weekly gathering designed specifically for parents who are eager to improve their English skills while connecting with others in their community. Hosted at our Gharaffa campus, the club offers free, interactive sessions that focus on practical language skills, cultural understanding and social interaction. It’s not just about learning grammar and vocabulary—it’s about fostering a sense of belonging.
We know that being a parent in a new environment comes with unique challenges. Communicating with teachers, attending school events or even scheduling doctor’s appointments can feel overwhelming when English isn’t your first language. The Parent English Club helps bridge that gap, giving parents the tools and confidence they need to thrive both at home and in the community.
Each session is thoughtfully designed to be both engaging and practical. We start with an icebreaker activity to get everyone talking and feeling comfortable. Whether it’s a group game or a simple question like, “What’s your favorite meal to cook for your family?”, these activities help participants practice conversational English in a relaxed setting.
Next, we dive into the day’s lesson. Topics are chosen based on the needs and interests of the group. For example, one week might focus on phrases for parent-teacher conferences, while another might cover vocabulary for grocery shopping or navigating public transportation. Lessons include role-playing, listening exercises and opportunities for small-group discussions. We also provide handouts and resources that participants can use at home.
The final part of each session is all about community building. Parents share their experiences, celebrate their progress and offer encouragement to one another. It’s amazing to see the friendships that form as participants bond over shared challenges and successes.
The Parent English Club is more than just a place to learn English; it’s a space where parents feel valued and supported. Many participants say that the club has helped them feel less isolated and more connected to their children’s school community. They’ve found a network of peers who understand their struggles and celebrate their achievements.
The success of the Parent English Club lies in its ability to create a warm, inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome. As one participant put it, “It’s not just a class; it’s a family.” Watching parents grow in confidence and form connections is a reminder of the incredible power of community.
If you’re a parent looking to improve your English and meet others on a similar journey, we’d love to welcome you to the Parent English Club. Together, we can learn, grow and build a stronger, more connected community—one conversation at a time.
