Introducing our new Early Years 1 teacher - Ciara Callaghan

Welcome to Compass International School Doha’s - Madinat Khalifa campus, we are excited to introduce an exceptional Early Years programme that nurtures the youngest learners in their educational journey. As part of our commitment to providing world-class education, we are thrilled to introduce our new Early Years 1 teacher, Ciara Callaghan. With a rich background in early childhood development and a passion for sensory-based learning, Ciara plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of education for young minds, and having fun along the way.

Ciara Callaghan’s Expertise in Early Childhood Education

Ciara joins us bringing nearly a decade of classroom experience with her, but her journey extends beyond traditional teaching. With a passion for understanding a spectrum of cognitive play methods she pursued her deep interest in early childhood development, which led her to create Blossom Sensory Classes. This initiative allowed her to develop innovative, hands-on learning experiences tailored specifically for young children, focusing on fostering sensory development, creativity, and early learning through play. Through Blossom Sensory Classes, Ciara was able to focus on the nuances of how young minds learn, deepening her understanding of child development and the role sensory play has in cognitive and emotional growth.

Enriching teaching practice through sensory education

After several rewarding years running her own business, Ciara made the decision to return to teaching. She now brings this wealth of experience to Compass Madinat Khalifa, where she applies the insights gained from her venture into every aspect of her Early Years classroom. Her background in sensory education has enriched her teaching practice, enabling her to create dynamic learning environments that cater to a wide variety of learners. Her approach centers around understanding each child’s individual needs and nurturing their development at their own pace.

The Impact of sensory education in the classroom

Ciara Callaghan explains that “Sensory education is a key component of my teaching practice. By engaging multiple senses—such as touch, sight, and sound—children learn through direct experiences.” This style of education stimulates brain connections, enhances memory, problem-solving abilities, and language development. Sensory play also supports the development of fine and gross motor skills and lays the foundation for future success.

Integrating specialised sensory methods into Early Years 1

In addition to cognitive and physical development, sensory education plays a crucial role in emotional and social growth. As children explore different textures, sounds, and sights, they learn to regulate their emotions, which helps them manage feelings and interact with others. Group sensory activities promote teamwork, communication, and cooperative play, providing valuable opportunities for social development in a fun and engaging environment.
Ciara has completed several specialised courses on how sensory play can support teaching and learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) classroom. She is eager to bring these initiatives to the Early Years 1 programme at Madinat Khalifa. Her goal is to ensure that each child is given the opportunity to explore the world around them at their own pace, using methods that are both interactive and exploratory.

With Ciara Callaghan’s leadership, Compass International School Doha’s Early Years programme is set to continue offering a vibrant, enriching environment that helps every child flourish. Her expertise and innovative approach to education will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of young learners.
