Last week we held a very successful Secondary Open Evening to a packed gallery of students and parents.
We were treated to performances by both the primary and secondary choirs, a dance performance by our Head Girl Lotte Vercruijsee and a presentation from Simon Porter, Head of Secondary. Lotte told the story of the time with Nord Anglia Education in Arabic and English and shared the highlights of being a student at Themaid campus.
Thank you to the students who performed so well and to their parents for supporting the evening.
In August 2020, we will start Year 12 and the AS, A-Level programme at Themaid campus. Please contact our Admissions Office, Olivia Villanueva on Olivia.Villanueva@nais.qa to find out about the options on offer and have a tour of the school.
Evolution Sports, the top sports provider in Qatar, is offering free ECAs to students at Themaid campus on Mondays and Thursdays. Monday will be soccer for Year 3-6 and Thursday will be soccer for Year 7-10. There are a few places left. As this is a fantastic opportunity for our students, we will allow them to register for Evolution sports as a 4th free choice. Please contact the School Secretaries to register.
On Sunday, Year 8 English enjoyed a lovely day out at Education city and National Library. They started with snacks and doughnuts down at ceremonial court and then walked up to the library. Students were impressed with the university buildings and the unique architecture of the library.
They took a library tour and saw the innovation and writing rooms, children’s and teen libraries and other behind the scenes gadgets that the library uses. They were then given time to browse through the catalogue of half a million books and explore the various areas of the library. This was a fantastic day out and students are already planning their next visit.
Year 5 have been learning about the Solar System in the IPC unit, Mission to Mars. Students were asked to make a model of the solar system for homework and exceeded expectations in creating fantastic models. They were able to explain their learning to the rest of the class and are very proud of their work. Well done Year 5.
Year 3 led a very informative assembly about the story of Chocolate on Thursday. They took us on a journey to show where cocoa beans came from and how they got from bean to chocolate bar. We learned many interesting facts and enjoyed a quiz and an excellent rendition of ‘Hot Chocolate’.
Ms Sutton led a Parent Seminar on Phonics last week, which was very well attended. We were delighted to see so many parents get involved, ask interesting questions and discuss the learning strategies that they can use at home to support their children.
On Tuesday, 27 January, we have Parent-Teacher Consultations for Years 8 and 9. This is a time for you to discuss your child’s progress this term and next steps to improve in the coming months. All subject teachers and form tutors will be available in the Auditorium. This is a very important meeting time, especially for our Year 9 students as the time to choose IGCSE options approaches.
Thank you for your support so far in making sure your child wears school uniform. There is still room for improvement in this regard. Can I also ask for your support in getting students to school on time, before 7.15 am? Some students are missing valuable lesson time and the key learning that takes place cannot be retaught. Therefore your child will have gaps in their knowledge if they miss lessons and no foundation on which to build their learning. Your assistance with this is appreciated.
Kind regards,
Ann Djedid
