Dear Parents,
Qatar has an international reputation as a hub for staging successful sporting events. It is important that as our global sporting profile rises and as the country prepares to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup that we simultaneously ensure that we are all engaged in this journey. We hope our families enjoyed last week’s National Sports Day and were able to participate in one of the events organised at hotels and other venues in Qatar.
At Gharaffa, we are committed to achieving excellence in all curriculum areas, including Physical Education. We recognise the potential of sport in not only shaping a healthier future for our students but in bringing our community together. It was an absolute joy to stand back and watch the children working together to accumulate House Points which were collated by our Year 5 and Year 6 students. Due to Wednesday’s sand storm the Year 3 and Year 4 Sports Day will be completed on Wednesday. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the days. It was great to see you all cheering the children on.
We are looking forward to Book Week which will commence on Sunday 25 February. I hope that you will come along to support the children by attending the school’s character parade on Sunday and are able to help out with our planned activities. We are excited to see the children in costume on Sunday. This week, Mr James, English Coordinator has asked the children to take a photograph with a family member in an unusual setting. We hope that you are able to support this activity and support a photograph to Mr James by Tuesday 27 February. In the lead up to Book Week we are hosting a book fair in school this week. This year, the school has requested a wider range of authors who we know will inspire our children. The books will be on sale all week, please pop in at any time to peruse and purchase books.
Also next week, Jessica Meyer, world class musician, representing Juilliard School for Music and the Performing Arts will visit the school. Jessica will be working with a number of classes and will host an assembly for all of the children at the end of the day. We are looking forward to Jessica’s visit who I’m sure will inspire our budding musicians.
We hope all our parents were able to attend today’s parent consultations and have found the conversation with class teachers very informative. If you were unable to attend today’s consultation please make an appointment to see the teacher in the next few days.
This month’s FCS meeting will be held on Tuesday at 7.30am. If you haven’t attended one of these meetings before, please come along.
Please remember that the school is currently selling tickets for Arabian night and the FCS children’s movie afternoon. Tickets are selling very quickly so please buy your ticket as soon as possible in order to secure a place for your child.
Kind regards,
Karen Wilson
