Peace Day, or the International Day of Peace, was created by the UN and first celebrated on September 21st, 1982. Its aim, ‘To commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace with the further intention of uniting the strengths of organizations, projects and peoples around the world in order to make peace a more practical reality for the children of this and future generations.’
The choir from all three campuses will be singing “This Day of Peace”. Singing has the power to make us feel calmer, happier and uplifted as well as having a direct and measurable impact on our mental and physical well-being. Singing together has long been a powerful and positive part of bringing and holding communities together and uniting them in a social and healing way. It’s even been shown scientifically to bond us with one another more quickly than any other group activity.
Whether it’s peace at in your community, school, workplace or the wider world, people globally want to lead more peaceful lives and live in more peaceful communities. Working towards personal peace is a starting point to a wider and growing peace in our lives and the lives of others. There are different ways to do this and singing purposefully together is one of them. Singing as a group is a simple, unifying and powerful act that helps us to feel more calm, centred, uplifted and connected. It requires us to listen and respond and allows us to express our feelings and thoughts harmoniously through our shared voices.
There are more than a million people around the world connecting with us to sing for peace and unity, from world class ensembles such as the London Philharmonic Choir, Tenebrae and The Boys Choir of Kenya, to school, community, workplace and local choirs in more than 50 countries.
Led by our head of Music, Alison Porter, all three campuses will be recorded singing, “This Day of Peace” which will be uploaded to our You Tube channel, be sure to check out our channel, Compass International School.
The blog highlights the transformative power of physical activity, emphasizing how it boosts energy, focus, and mental well-being. At Compass International School, promoting an active lifestyle is integral to fostering both physical and emotional health, which in turn enhances students' academic performance. The new initiative, Kickstart Kilometre, invites the school community to walk or jog together every Thursday morning, kickstarting their day with positive energy and improved focus. This approach aims to inspire a balanced lifestyle that helps manage stress and supports overall success in both academics and life.
