Over the weekend of Thursday, 9 February to Saturday, 11 February, fourteen students participated in their first Model United Nations conference and the school’s first within Qatar.
It was the 5th Andrew’s Model United Nations Conference held at Carnegie Mellon University in Education City with approximately 140 delegates in attendance. All students did very well, with Noor Al Kharazi receiving an ‘honourable mention award’ which exceeded expectations.
The experience students gained is something teachers hope they can reflect upon and continue to improve their technique. As they continue on their academic journey, the participating students will be encouraged to pass their newfound knowledge onto new students at Compass International School Doha.
With increased personal confidence, students have been challenged to set an ambitious example of leadership within the school, expand the program and improve the school’s profile in Doha.
Most of the students who participated also attended the Qatar Leadership Conference back in October which was an opportunity to introduce the students to the Model United Nations Community and give ideas about what student based leadership actually means.
(Participating students: Matin Moors, Gilla Mohammed, Mira Grolus, Gabriella Carrera, Lamis Bareche, Omar Mohammed, Youssef Dhebi, Toumarte Rajib, Muayid Abeidah, Noor Al Kharazi, Elwaad Abulaahi, Yelim Kim, Xin Di Kwong and Kevin D’Cunha)
