We have had an excellent start back to the school year and it was great to see all the children back to school. I am really looking forward to this academic year.
I mentioned before that we spent a lot of energy and a lot of money on enhancing the facilities for your children. They include; New Sixth form study which has a study area, new university guidance counsellor room, new dance and fitness studio, new music rooms, café space and new classrooms.
In the coming weeks, we will complete the outdoor decking and seating area and the parent café area.
We have also carried out significant upgrades to the school building painting the whole outside of both buildings. Inside the buildings, we have, painted doors and new lockers in secondary, new primary reception, more toilets for primary students and new F1 classroom. There are many more new features and I’ve just listed the major ones. I know the children and parents have been excited to see the many changes that are long overdue for the school.
I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students again for the outstanding IGCSE results. As expected they achieved the best every grades the school. So, whilst in many parts of the world the results have dropped, BVIS students have achieved the best results ever with 63% of the grades being at the highest A*-B grade. Amazing achievement and we are very proud of all the students.
Next Tuesday (August 29), all of our students and teachers from Year 1 to Year 13 will join the Community Run at Royal City Square.
We aim to raise as much money as possible for our service learning projects this year. When joining the run, each student and staff will donate a recommended amount of 100,000 VND. The money will be used to help the lives of people who need our help and fund the work we will be doing. All students will run (or walk) around the Royal City Square during the school day according to the timetable.
Last year, our Community Run was a success and I am looking forward to see amazing runners this year.
Finally, I would like to mention again that we invest heavily in the training of our staff to ensure your children get the best. Last week we joined our sister school BIS and invited a world class leadership expert, Diana Osagie to Vietnam to work with our leaders across both schools.
It has been a great start to the new school year, with much-loved returning staff and children joined by new friends, guides and colleagues for us to welcome. Together, children and staff have dived straight into the exciting learning that a new school year promises. “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?” asked Vincent Van Gogh. Our dynamic team of adults and children have plenty courage and have launched into Term 1a enthusiastically.
In Primary, we welcomed
We also welcomed back Ms Laura as a teacher of English.
2.1. Early Years
What a marvellous start to the new academic term they have had in Early Years. Ms Cerys, the new Head of Early Years was very impressed by all the children’s friendly greetings and polite behaviour. It was lovely to see the children learning and playing together. They have more activities planned for this week including talking about our families, please remember to send in a family photograph.
2.2. Year 1 sharing about their family and dream job
What a fantastic week it has been in Year 1 this week. The children were excited to explore new things and learn in new subjects and environments. In class, they spent time sharing about their family and their dream job.
2.3. Year 2 enjoying well-being activities
Year 2 have settled in well to their new classroom and have enjoyed doing a range of well-being activities during morning registration focusing on physical and mental fitness.
2.4. Year 3 learning about rainforests
Year 3 have started their new IPC topic all about rainforests. They have been inspired to find out more about them and what animals live in the rainforests. They created some art work to show what they already know and also thought of some questions for things that they would like to find out.
2.5. Year 4 explorering
Year 4 dressed up as explorers and went on a treasure hunt around the school, solving clues. The final clue led them to the treasure chest, and they found out that this term, they will be learning about Vikings.
2.6. Year 5 learning about Climate Control
For their Climate Control Entry Point, Year 5 identified endangered animals and estimated their numbers left in the wild. It was challenging because some of the photos were blurry. The number of pixels in the photo corresponded to the number of animals left in the wild.
2.7. Year 6 learning about the price of progress
For their Entry Point, Year 6 began learning about the price of progress. The children were given different local tools which they had to identify and think about the materials used to make them and began exploring different inventions and inventors and what impact these inventions have had.
In art this week we have been focusing on creating positive relationships and the students have been designing ‘All about me Birds’. These birds will be made into a mural for the art classroom walls so all our students can share the things they are most excited or passionate about.
2. Artist of the week
Every week one student from each class will be chosen as “Artist of the Week”. As this was the first week we chose two from 7B. Well done! I wonder who will be next week?
School value ENQUIRY and GLOBAL CITIZENS – designing eco-friendly theme parks
Year 7 project was to enable the year 7’s to spend some time getting to know each other and their teachers, helping them to settle them into secondary school. The project focus was for all students to work on co-operation collaboration and working to a deadline while raising environmental awareness linking to global citizenship through designing a theme park. Each group was divided into four mini teams designing the restaurant, rides, gift shop and marketing. On Monday afternoon parents were invited to come and hear their presentations of what went well and what they have learnt through the process.
