Dear Parents,

It has been a great week. Please share with us the success of Ha Noi University Fair, the KS3 boys’ and girls’ Basketball matches and the rehearsals for the School Production:

School Production: Alice in Wonderland

The rehearsals for this year’s school show are now well underway, with students working hard learning songs, lines, actions and dance routines!

Follow Alice as she navigates the curious world of Wonderland on her journey of self-discovery, encountering the ever-tardy White Rabbit, the grinning Cheshire Cat, a cool Caterpillar, a Mad Hatter, a Queen with a quite a temper, and many more of the best loved Wonderland characters from this literary classic.

Disney’s Alice in Wonderland JR. is playing at BVIS Hanoi (Secondary Hall) from Thursday 5th December 2019 through Friday 6th December.

Ha Noi University Fair

BVIS along with other schools in the Hanoi area have been working hard over the last 9 months to organise a University Fair for the students of our schools.  In conjunction with the major international schools in Hanoi, The British Vietnamese International School, Hanoi helped with this one day event.  It provided a wonderful opportunity for of our students, allowing them to come together to attend and benefit from the advice, expertise and experience of over 100+ universities from across the world.  Choosing the right university is an important step in the next stage of our students’ journey.  Allowing them to make informed choices will better assist them making the right decisions about their eventual destination and course choice. Hanoi University Fair is on the map and here to stay!

KS3 Basketball– Girls

Match report:

The match started with high intensity and a strong level of competition from both teams. The highlight of this quarter came from our vice-captain Ngoc’s phenomenal rebounding prowess and pressure defence denying her opposition any space to get the ball. Our point guard, Khanh Vy, led our attack and put the first points on the score board. The first quarter came to a close with a score of 4:0.

The second quarter saw a few fouls committed by the BVIS team, which led to one successful free-throw by ISV, making the score 4:1. With some further defensive pressure, BVIS reduced the ISV scoring opportunities ensuring that that this one point was their only score for the remainder of the game!

The third quarter saw Sally enter the game, where her impact was felt both in defence and offence, with well-executed interceptions, shots and denial of the ball. During this quarter, we also witnessed some lovely shooting from Le Phuong, and again from Khanh Vy, which brought the scoreboard to 8:1.

The fourth and final quarter brought Ha Vi and Ngoc Minh into the game where they demonstrated their skills in both offence and defence, keeping calm under pressure and supporting their team. Another successful shot from Le Phuong brought the final score of the game to 10:1, and another excellent win for BVIS.

A special mention must go out to our captain, Trinh, vice-captain, Ngoc, and point guard, Khanh Vy, who played every second of the game, demonstrating a high level of fitness, determination and perseverance.  Congratulations to all.

Training Schedule:

Tuesdays 3:05-5:00pm; Thursdays 4:05-5:00pm (after ECA)

KS3 Basketball– Boys

Match report:

The match started very competitively. Both teams were working hard to find a gap in the other team’s defence, applying as much pressure as possible. It was ISV who were more successful in the first quarter, scoring 7 points to BVIS’ 4.

After a re-group of tactics and game play, the second quarter started much more positively for BVIS who quickly scored three 3-point shots. Ha Tuan Hung (9V) put in a particularly good performance during this quarter, scoring two out of the three 3-point shots. The second quarter finished BVIS: 16, ISV: 9.

The third quarter swayed back in the direction of ISV as they maintained a high level of pressure on the BVIS defence. Our students were working hard to get the ball back but through excellent teamwork, ISV managed to score an additional 12 points. The third quarter finished BVIS: 27 – 21 ISV.

The fourth and final quarter was where BVIS really showed their teamwork, determination and motivation to win. Each student in the squad worked hard in both attack and defence. Ha Tuan Hung put in a ‘man of the match’ performance, scoring 16 points throughout the game, stealing the ball on several occasions. The match finished with a great win for BVIS: 37 – 21, the final score line.

A very well done to all of our students who took part in the basketball match.  All of the boys should be proud of a fantastic effort.
