January 18, BVIS Hanoi - BVIS Secondary students and two representatives of SCUBA, Harrie Kerley and Duncan Kenning, had an inspiring discussion about the problem of plastic waste. In this 6-month campaign in Vietnam, SCUBA representatives hope to deliver the message of making more significant efforts to reduce the plastic waste.
SCUBA is an social activist group whose significant efforts to raise the community awareness about protecting the environment, especially ocean environment. Alarming numbers and pictures about plastic waste’ impacts on environment and the global biodiversity were shared in the discussion between SCUBA representatives and BVIS students, receiving strong reactions.
What made SCUBA representatives most impressed was the student understanding about the seriousness of uncontrolled plastic waste as well as the responsibility of human-beings for this alarming situation. The awareness of young generation plays a crucial role since they are the decisive force in the success of global efforts to protect environment, said Duncan and Harrie.
SCUBA representatives recommended that the awareness and readiness of Vietnamese young generation and BVIS students particular should be well nurtured and supported especially when the Vietnam’s sea is one of the most affected areas. Vietnam has a long coastal line which is easily impacted by human activities. Any negative impact on the sea will soon cause serious consequences on the Vietnamese generations.
BVIS Hanoi and SCUBA hope that there would be more cooperating opportunities in eco-friendly projects. BVIS students are always ready to take action and to contribute significant initiatives to environmental activities as well as other meaningful social ones.
