And so another school year is over. We have had a lovely last week of term, celebrating the many achievements of our students and teachers of BVIS. Wednesday saw our third, and last, Enrichment Day of the year. The students were working on the UN Sustainable Goals numbers 11 and 12 - sustainable cities and responsible consumption. The day saw our Years 7s going to the Hanoi Aquarium and focusing on responsible consumption with regards to shark fin and the effects of plastics on marine life. The Year 8s prepared and delivered TED talks on Hanoi’s journey to becoming a sustainable city - how can this be achieved by 2030? Years 9 and 10 worked on the ‘global village’ and engaged in graphing, data handling and team work within the theme of unequal global development. My thanks to all the staff involved, and particularly to Mrs Debbie Murray Smith and Ms Claire Bower for coordinating this terrific day.
On Thursday, we had our annual prize giving ceremony. This saw us awarding prizes to students for the work they have done in their tutor groups and the most improved students and those with the highest attainment within each subject area. We also presented the Principal’s Awards to those in each year group that were felt to have made the most significant overall contributions to school life in a number of different areas. So congratulations once again to:
Do Phu Minh
Dao Tien Dat
Dang Nha Truc
Cho Jun Hyun
Pham Thi Phuong Thao
Nguyen Duc Viet
Pham Khanh Tung
At the end of the prize giving ceremony, our Head Students for this year, Bao Anh and Minh, gave their last speeches to the school. They then had the honour of announcing the new Head Students for next year. Following an application process that involved writing about why they should be a Head Student, presenting their ideas to the student body, and then having a formal interview with myself and Mr Sayer, we agreed on who the new incumbents should be.
So it was lovely to be able to announce that the Head Students for 2018-19 will be Nguyen Thi Nhu Trang and Nguyen Duc Viet. They fully deserve this award and I am sure that they will carry out their duties admirably. I would like to thank Bao Anh and Minh for being wonderful Head Students and wish them all the very best in their futures.
So to all of our parents, students and staff I would like to thank you all for the marvelous contributions you have made to the school this year. I wish you all a happy and safe summer holiday, and I look forward to seeing you all in August.
