Last Friday we witnessed ‘A Child’s Journey. Act 2’. This was our combined winter arts celebration and what a fantastic showpiece it was. Every single Primary student participated, dancing or playing music and all had a piece of art work on show too. After just one term of our Dance collaboration and four terms of our music collaboration with Juilliard, it is clear to see the progress your children are making with this new curriculum. As I looked around the room of over 300 parents, it was evident you all felt the same. There were many oo’s and ah’s as the children performed technical pieces and amazed us all. I think the final performance of Hallelujah had us all in tears of pride and joy as we were moved by the build-up of children and voices to the stage, dressed in winter clothes, holding candles. It was a feast and delight to the ears and the eyes, to our senses, exactly what performing and expressive arts should do.
On Saturday about 20 of our children were also performing, this time for a very different purpose and stage. They were at the sunset bar at the InterContinental hotel singing carols and performing other musical pieces wowing the audience attending the Christmas market at the hotel. Our children were phenomenal in the cold weather and with breaks between performances but they were true professionals and brought the spirit of Christmas to all who attended. Thank you to Miss Emily Tulloh, music, and Miss Kaye Meakin, art and dance, for producing and supporting these events and of course also to the support received from our staff who attended and those behind the scenes who allow it all to happen seamlessly.
It has been a fantastic term and we now look forward to a good holiday, time to relax, visit family and prepare for the term ahead starting Monday January 8th. Have a great time with your families and we look forward to welcoming you back in the new year.
