Another week flies by and more magic moments are created, relationships between children and their new teachers are strengthened and former students, now in Secondary, remind you of why our school is just so special. Walking through to EYFS Ngoc Diep and Van Anh stopped me to tell me some jokes, and to give me a joke book Ngoc Diep bought in the UK whilst attending summer school. What marvellous kind, caring and thoughtful children we have, you have. My favourite joke so far, ‘What’s an Octopus favourite book? Diary of a Wimpy Squid!’
This week there have been many International Primary Curriculum (IPC) entry points, the inspiration for children’s future learning. Year 5 have modelled boats and tested they float, and Year 2 have been on holiday, having their passports checked and boarding a plane before heading off to the beach, what fun! I was most involved with Year 1’s entry point, all about the circus. In England people can be called a clown which basically means they are funny and silly. At the circus, a clown does things that are just that, funny and silly. They have big shoes on their feet, a massive red nose, colourful wig and brightly coloured outfits. I surprised Year 1 by wearing such an outfit, minus the shoes and nose, trying extremely hard to be funny and silly, it was hard work! The children enjoyed watching some juggling and being covered in a bucket of water, just blue paper, before creating things to be found at a circus. Thank you to the Year 1 team for their energy and inspiration and especially to Ms. Thu for the clown suit!
Children have also enjoyed being assigned to their phonics groups this week and are now in a routine knowing exactly which teacher to go to for English and the Vietnamese. It is the first year we have formalised these groups in both languages to integrate the best educational practice to benefit the language learning of your children. We promise that they will have true bilingual proficiency when they leave the school and this development greatly enhances the ability to meet that promise.
