This is an event targeted at Years 7 and 8. We also entered some Year 6 students keen to test themselves internationally. The Maths challenge consists of 25 questions of increasing difficulty aiming to stretch the most able mathematicians.

Our students here are challenged by the mathematic vernacular in such competitions so the excellent performance of our young mathematicians is all the more laudable. I can but imagine sitting a technical examination in a second language.
Many students achieved Bronze, Silver or Gold certificates, which is a noteworthy achievement.
2 students raised the bar further. Yeenoo and HoSeong have both passed onto the next level. This is the junior Olympiad in June this year. As a department, we would like to congratulate these two for their outstanding performances.
Now it is seldom, we as teachers can describe a performance as perfect. HoSeong Nam achieved perfection, scoring 100 % in the maths challenge. Mr O’Donnell, who has many years’ experience of the JMC, has never seen a pupil achieve 100%. This is an extraordinary achievement for a young man in a second language. HoSeong has consistently performed well in mathematics, with an innate ability married to a truly impressive work ethic. His potential in this subject is substantial. I would like to furnish my congratulations on a virtuoso performance.
