On the 8th of March every year, we celebrate International Women’s Day. This was an opportunity for students to reflect on the role of women in society in 2016 and to look at the evolution of women’s roles. Miss Hartigan also did a display about women in Vietnam. It is obviously a day to celebrate the achievement of women around the world and look at some role models and I would like to also take this opportunity to thank parents for gifts! But for me, the purpose is far from just being a celebration. It is an opportunity to have a social debate about countries where woman are not treated as well as they should and who may not have full or any access to education. As global citizens, we want our Secondary students to be reflective about how conditions could be improved and what role they could play in the future.
It has also been ‘Celebrating Language Week’ with many exciting events taking place. We are very excited about our first inter-house interpreting competition which took place on Friday (see Miss Debbie’s article)
We have also had several sports fixtures this week, with our senior boys team playing St Paul’s as well as Concordia (see Mr Brooke-Smith’s articles about KS4 football). Most lunchtimes, house football has also taken place! It has been a full and successful week.
