First of all can we wish you all a Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a very nice Tet and managed to spend some quality time with your family.

We finished the last half-term with a wonderful assembly to celebrate Tet with music, films and drama. It was the end of a short but very productive half-term!

During most lunchtimes in January, Secondary students took part in a house basketball competition (see Miss Alicia’s article). There were also many sports fixtures (see Mr Perry’s article about the KS4 basketball finals). Students also started to take part in extra football training with professional coaches from Hanoi Youth Soccer Centre (H.Y.S), which has been a popular option after school. Rehearsals for the Secondary production have also been taking place on a regular basis.

There have been several Year 7 projects. I have been impressed by the Year 7’s creativity in their History lessons, producing model castles (see Mr Lincoln’s article). In January, we also introduced a food club and Year 7 students have been producing some very tasty salads. We will certainly be looking at introducing more workshops, where students will have the opportunity to plan and create.

On the last Friday before half-term, we also held our annual Key Stage 3 House Public Speaking competition. Again the finalists were incredibly confident and spoke well about their chosen topic. This year, we had two finalists for each house, one for Vietnamese Language and one for English Language. We were very pleased to have three guest judges; Ms Nguyen Thi Ngoc Minh, lecturer of Language and Literature, Mr Phan Ngoc Huyen, lecturer of History, both from the Department at Hanoi National University of Education and Ms Suzanne Clarke. Congratulations to Minh Phuong in 8B and Kim Yeonoo in 8V, our overall winners!
