On Saturday 14th November the Key Stage 3 boys’ and girls’ basketball teams represented BVIS Hanoi in the final tournament of the season.

From basket to basket, the girls’ team were as good as any on the day. Patience in possession along with accurate passing gave them much of the possession. The only difference in the end was the quality of the shooting under the basket: something to improve on for next season. They came away with an excellent win over Concordia and a draw against BIS. This team has improved greatly over the course of the season and they should be proud of themselves.

The boys’ team started slowly with an unfortunate loss against Wellspring. Once the nerves wore off, they got going and started to perform. This was a very successful tournament for the boys and one of which they should be proud of. To move on to the next level and challenge for titles, the team needs to work hard together and put in place the fundamentals of the game. The tournament saw excellent wins against 2 out of the 3 UNIS teams, a second win against Concordia and a convincing display in the final game of the day to beat BIS, Hanoi. Well done everyone and a huge ‘thank you’ to Jon Leak for all his help throughout the season. The most valued player (MVP) was Xuan Quang (Yr9).

This week also saw the Key stage 4 Basketball kick off.  Our first game was against Olympia. Our boys played away and the girls at home. This group of girls had not yet played together so it was pleasing that they made some good passages in play. There is much work to be done but the foundations of a good team are there and I look forward to seeing them progress. The boys did not play to their potential and again much work is to be done on defensive shape and attacking play. That said, they managed to get ahead and stay ahead winning 25-18. The most valued player (MVP) was Cong Hoang (Yr10).
