This week in the UK, it was Science Week. The aim is to engage and inspire people of all ages with Science, Engineering and Technology.

It is a chance for all to celebrate and reflect on some of the great discoveries that have been made over time. And, of course, it is for younger people to be inspired!  The British Vietnamese International School students are very inquisitive and enjoy their Science lessons very much. Our Science Department has expanded and we now have 3 teachers; Mr. Brooke-Smith who is a Biologist, Mr. Murray-Smith who is our Chemist and Mr. McKie our Physicist. I hope that as our students get older, some of them will take up professions in the field of Science, Technology and Engineering, maybe choosing to go into research and make a real difference! Today, Mr. Murray-Smith concluded the week with an assembly where he talked to our Key Stage 3 students about the purpose of Science and how it can make us a more fulfilled and purposeful person.

Next week, we are very excited to be able to take our Year 7 and Key Stage 4 students to meet a very inspirational Scientist, Dr Lee, who will be speaking about her career as an explorer and ecologist. She is the first person from Hong Kong and the first woman to have visited the North Pole, the South Pole, and Mount Everest. She has visited the Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon (the deepest canyon in China) and the Taklamakan (the hottest desert in China). Hopefully she will inspire students to want to have a better understanding of the World and how to work to preserve our planet!
