At British International School of Washington, a school in the heart of Georgetown, we are committed to offering a personalised learning journey for every student from pre-nursey to pre-university based on their individual needs, interests, and passions. We do this by engaging with the world’s best educational programs and employing exceptional, international teachers.
At BISW, we offer a challenging and varied curriculum which culminates in the prestigious International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (DP) for Years 12 and 13. The IB DP, widely recognized by the world’s leading colleges and universities, intentionally prepares students for success in higher education and for life in a global society. For Years 10 and 11, we offer the distinguished International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The IGCSE is a globally recognized qualification and an ideal foundation for upper-level courses, including the IB DP. Students in Lower Secondary, (Years 7 – 9), engage with a tailored international curriculum designed to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world, actively promoting academic and personal development while effectively preparing students for both the IGCSE and the IB DP.
Academic excellence at BISW extends to our Primary School (Years 1-6) and our Early Years (Ages 2-5) as well. In Primary School, students are engaging with both the National Curriculum for England (NCE) and the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) where we thoughtfully place each child at the center of their own learning experience and partner with families to ensure consistency and support. This integrative approach creates an ambitious learning environment and offers opportunities for personal challenge, growth, and success. The Early Years program at BISW follows the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), a culturally informed curriculum designed to support early learners and their families. We challenge and celebrate each student, encouraging them to realise and develop their talents while instilling a passion for life-long learning.
From Early Years to the IB DP, our open-minded and innovative approach to education focuses on four core components: emotional intelligence, cultural understanding, communication, and collaboration. Beginning with the admissions process and culminating at graduation, we pride ourselves on our bespoke approach to educating each individual student. In addition to achieving the highest British academic standards and values, we aim to develop our students to be responsible members of our global community by preparing them for their future.
I encourage you to connect with our inspiring, talented, and diverse community - either virtually or on-campus - so that you can experience this joyful and purposeful international learning environment so unique to BISW. With Kiburi the Lion as our mascot, we welcome you to the BISW Pride!
