I started teaching EAL in Ireland in 2009. I began teaching adults with a focus on Business English and IELTs prep, but having always wanted to work with younger learners, I began teaching in secondary schools shortly after. I’ve previously held roles as a Guidance Counsellor and EAL teacher in Ireland and British curriculum International schools in the UAE and now China.
I’ve always been interested in language acquisition and I find English and EAL lend themselves well to lots of interaction, variety and you can be as creative as you like when introducing new language points. The biggest draw for me though is that I get to learn so much about my students lives and their preferences so I can use that to create lessons they enjoy and become more immersed in.
