I started teaching at Altra College Bleichrodt, a secondary school for students with special educational needs. My next job was at Damstede in Amsterdam. In this secondary school, I was a Dutch teacher and tutor, and coordinator of two year groups. In August 2021, I came to BISS to be a Primary and Secondary teacher at the Shanghai Dutch School.
After studying social work and theology, I obtained my teacher’s degree for Dutch at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam.
My current role is that of Head of Shanghai Dutch School. I still teach both Primary and Secondary classes, which gives me the opportunity to support students across the SDS. Organising events for the Dutch/Belgian community is also an important part of my role. I am also a Form Tutor in Year 9.
I’m passionate about motivating students to use their mother tongue to express themselves and to constantly improve their language skills. Interpreting language and communicating ideas (in both formal and creative language) will help them improve self-confidence. I also love the cultural importance of the SDS in our community.
I enjoy exploring Shanghai, travelling, reading, cooking, eating, hiking, cycling, and spending time with friends.
