Year 7 Mathematicians have been using their bodies to act out the new geometry vocabulary we have been learning. In international schools one of the big differences in teaching and learning is a focus on language acquisition. Even native English speakers benefit from this focus as the key science and maths vocab is taught explicitly and for most students the subject specific vocabulary is also new to them! We used our bodies to show parallel lines, rays, acute angles, obtuse angles, points, intersecting lines, etc. We also like to do activities like these as it helps the kinesthetic learners to make connections between their muscle memory and the concepts they are learning.
At BISC we design our classes using approaches to teaching that removes barriers to learning and is inclusive.
