Year 10 kicked off their next physics unit by doing an inquiry into how to use paper airplanes to measure speed.
We wanted to go outside but the weather was against us, pouring with rain. Luckily, we have lots of space in our school and found areas where we could throw our airplanes, record the distance and the time, then calculate the speed. We used lots of our scientific method skills such as recording raw data accurately using tables, figuring out what our variables were and what our controls were (and why!), analyzing results, and considering how to improve the experiment.
This unit will be assessed with a lab design project and a full lab report in order to start practicing the skills needed for the students to be successful in the IB Diploma Programme Internal Assessment in years to come.
