Can you apply your knowledge of the scientific method, insulation, heat energy, and its transfer to build a calorimeter which slows the rate of cooling of hot water?

Year 11 wanted to find out! They began by considering the theory behind heat energy, exothermic and endothermic processes, and the ways that heat energy can be transferred. They then went on to research the best insulation. After sourcing materials, the students built the calorimeters then tested them. They were excited to find out the calorimeters did work and said it was fun to observe the design issues and try to solve them on the spot. Ms. Crigger says that she has been really proud of the way the Year 11s have tackled the problem with enthusiasm and is excited to read their first lab report!
