Atomic Structure

Year 10 has been working together to create a giant timeline to organize and display the contributions of different scientists to our current understanding of atomic structure. Throughout this project, Year 10 experienced some significant challenges to overcome such as:

• How to use scales to figure out how to distribute the years? (They didn't do it successfully at first and had to strategize how to fix it once it was started!)
• How can they all contribute constructively to group projects?

The project was initiated with an inquiry based WebQuest but they finished the project with lots more questions such as why there was no progress made for over a thousand years? What were other societies and scientists doing and why aren't their acheivements acknowledged? These questions lead to some meaningful conversations and a very 'IBDP Theory of Knowledge' type discussion. We look forward to the insights Year 10 comes up with as a result of this project, and how this shapes their ideas of progress!
