The theme of parent partnership continues at the Junior Campus this week with a number of successful events involving our BIS Community.
There was a record attendance for our Maths Workshop on Wednesday morning as well as 2 lovely Young Musician Semi Finals on both Wednesday and Thursday afternoons where we welcomed families of students performing. We look forward to more events next week with The Young Musician Showcase, workshops ( at the EY&I campus) and upcoming events such as EAL workshops, Open Mornings for our Swimming lessons and PTG events.
Details of all can be found by scrolling down through this update.
The theme of our assembly today was about leadership and care. Led by Mr Neil Gorton, Assistant Headteacher, we welcomed the new House Captains, heard from the Student Council Executive Committee and launched the student Council for all classes for this academic year.
One of our greatest examples of care and leadership has been Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Today we heard about her life of service, care and leadership. As a mark of respect to the Queen on the day of her funeral, Monday September 19th 2022, we will, as a school, observe a minute’s silence at 10.45am across all three campuses.
It was fantastic to welcome so many parents to our Maths Coffee mornings at EY&I and Juniors this week. After such long periods of Covid restrictions it was great to be able to share with you how we approach teaching Maths at BIS.
Maths will always be a core area of the curriculum for our children. Traditionally the focus has been to help improve our written methods and ensure we know our times tables. Whilst of course these are areas we are keen to further develop, more recently our focus has been on encouraging problem solving.
If we want our children to be amazing mathematicians, first we need to teach them how to be great problem solvers. This has definitely been our overarching message over the two sessions this week and it was wonderful to be able to share that with so many of you. Thank you to everyone for fully embracing the tasks set. For us it was fantastic to hear similar discussions amongst the parents that we would hear from the children in our classes. As we said earlier in the week, ‘mathematics is a strange language’ but one that is so important for our children to learn and develop. The beauty is it’s all around us and we can find examples to share with our children at anytime.
If you were unable to attend the workshop, please find a copy of the presentation here; Junior Campus Maths Parent Presentation.

CCAs will begin next week at the Junior Campus. We are delighted with the numbers that have signed up and it promises to be a very busy term ahead.
Children will be brought to the small field at the end of their club time by their club teacher. They may not line up in their usual class line, rather with the class teacher running the club. Please talk to your child about who is their club teacher and where they will line up. If it is wet pick up, the children will be picked up from the club venue. Again, please ensure you know where that club is taking place - it was shared with you in the school buddy diary for your child’s club.
We are delighted to invite everyone to take part in the much-awaited World CleanUp Day which will be taking place at the BIS Early Years and Infant Campus tomorrow, Saturday 17th September 2022.
The clean-up will be managed in small teams with a staged leaving time:
Please sign up here to join in the fun and to help make our community a cleaner environment. Everyone who participates will also earn house points!
We look forward to seeing you all there!
Also at the clean up day will be our Pop Up UPcycle Uniform Shop and a Uniform Swap area from 9am to 11am.
Drop by, get your couple of spare uniforms and help make BIS a greener school!
All uniforms are free of charge. No donations or swaps are necessary.
* Donation boxes will be available for anyone who would like to make a pre-loved uniform donation yet
=> To reduce the wastage of branded clothes (we are allowed to donate the uniforms as they are)
=> To support Community Charity Projects
=> To raise awareness of eco-sustainable development
=> To bring BIS Community together
This project is making sustainable use of uniforms inspired by the 5Rs of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Recover, Repair. Making the old and used into something beautiful and reusable again. It’s all run by parent volunteers and all profits go to support Community Charity Projects.
Parent Partnership events continue with our Open Swimming Week 2022. During the week beginning 3rd October 2022, the PE department will be offering an ‘open swimming week’ to parents. This is an opportunity for parents to come into school and watch their children’s swimming lessons. Through watching your child’s swimming lesson, you will get the opportunity to see the skills your children are learning, how they are progressing and what areas they can develop in. A Letter with more details will be sent to all parents next week. We hope to see many parents at these sessions!
We are delighted to be able to resume rehearsals with our fantastic community choir next week. The community choir is open to all adult members of the BIS community who enjoy singing.
Rehearsals will take place on Thursday mornings 7.00am - 7.40am in the Secondary Theatre OR Friday afternoons in the Junior Campus multi-purpose room 13.15-14.15.
All are welcome, whatever your singing level.
Parents should register attendance in advance on this link.
Ian Alexander, Director of Music
We are delighted to share that there is a new BIS car park between the Junior Campus and the EY&I campus. We strongly encourage all parents and drivers to use this car park and walk the short distance to any of the three campuses to collect your children. This will reduce the number of cars parked along the road and ease the traffic congestion considerably.
Please can we ask for your support in sharing this with your drivers and encouraging them to use the car park also.
If you have not completed the ‘updated medical information’ Google Form that was shared by BIS HCMC on the 1st of August, you will have received an email yesterday (Thursday) urging you to do so as soon as possible. This information is vital, especially in the event of an emergency. Your swift completion of this task is much appreciated and thank you to those families who have done so already.
Kind regards, Mr. Chris
Whilst as a school and a country we are in a much better place than this time last year, Covid-19 continues to be a disruption. Right around the world, we have seen 3rd and 4th Covid waves appear, and Vietnam is no different. To keep our entire community safe, we urge that you watch for any symptoms with your children, and conduct a Rapid Antigen Test if you have any concerns for their health. If a positive result is confirmed, please inform Mr Chris (Christopher.McKelvie@bisvietnam.com ) as soon as possible. Even if negative, we ask that if children have any any Cold/Flu/Covid Symptoms, that they remain off school until symptom free.
If a positive case is recorded, your child will remain at home until such a time a negative result from a medical facility is returned to Mr Chris (email above), and to Nurse Shena (Shena.Nojor@bisvietnam.com). Symptoms are generally mild, and your child should be able to return to school within a week. Household/close contacts are able to return to school immediately if negative, but we urge
If at any time you have a concern at home with the health of your child, you are more than welcome to reach out to the Health and Safety Leads of either campus (EYIC Ms Sarah Curran Sarah.Curran@bisvietnam.com and JC Mr Chris McKelvie Christopher.McKelvie@bisvietnam.com.

The last week has been full of celebration and also sadness for many. We wish to congratulate the children that performed so courageously and in style in Moon Festival. Additionally, the passing of The Queen is a time to reflect on the great service, dedication and inspiration that she presented to millions across the globe.
