Weekly Update BannersDeirdreGrimshaw

Faced with the challenges of working from home, our students have continued to impress us all. This week in Juniors, Ms Dee, Chris, and Mr Neil have been on calls with most of the classes and have enjoyed hearing about their Virtual Learning, their various challenges and what they enjoyed the most about working from home. At the Early Years and Infant Campus, Mr Ian, Ms Sarah and Ms Maria have been engaging with the children in their online sessions and assemblies.  It is wonderful to see how the children are persevering and continuing to engage with online learning.

FOBISIA Voices

voices

Last term some of our Junior and Secondary choir students took part in the ‘FOBISIA Voices’ event. They learned a specially commissioned song called ‘There will Always Be Music’. 24 Schools across Asia recorded their students singing the song to form a huge ‘virtual choir’. NAE Comic Book Competition Winner

Jay

In2020, children from across the world took part in the NAE Global Campus Comic Book Competition.  The competition was inspired by children’s book writer and illustrator, James Foley, and the challenge was to develop a comic that came up with an innovative solution to combating climate change. So many students entered the competition across our NAE family of schools, and it is with great pleasure that we can announce that Jay in 2S was selected as the winner of his age category (Under 8s). Jay’s original comic creation was then illustrated by James Foley.

What a wonderful achievement!

Moving On Workshop

We look forward to welcoming families that are leaving BIS this year, to join us for our Moving on Workshop. This is aimed at helping to support our BIS families through both school administrative tasks as well as wider questions and concerns associated with the transition to a new country and school.  With input from our Leadership Team, Admissions Department and Counsellors, the webinar aims to support all of our school community in their transition from BIS.  It will take place on Tuesday 8th June from 9am to 10am.  An invite will be sent to all departing families from the Admissions Team.

LiF Mother Language Challenge

LiF MLC

We are now in Week 5 of the LiF Mother Language Challenge, it’s the final week!! This week, we have left it up to you to choose your favourite thing from your home country, or something that really reminds you of home. Tell us all about it and why it is important to you. Remember, you still have time to do any challenges you have missed. For information about how to get involved, visit the Language in Focus Blog.

Young Interpreters

We are very excited to launch the Young Interpreters Scheme at Junior Campus following its very successful introduction at the Early Years & Infant Campus in Term 1. Young Interpreters are students who play an important role in welcoming new students who join the school, helping them to feel comfortable in their new environment, understand the classroom routines and rules, and make friends. They are chosen for attributes including care, respect and kindness.

We had a fantastic response with more than 100 applications from across Year 3 and Year 4, giving us very tough decisions to make. Thank you to every student who applied. 10 Young Interpreters from each of Year 3 and Year 4 have been chosen, and their names will be announced via Seesaw on Monday next week. We are very excited to begin their training soon!

End of Year Reports

Next week you will receive your login details for iSAMS to access your child’s end of year report. Teachers have worked really hard to provide feedback on the effort, progress and achievement of your child this term. In addition, there are targets for English, Maths and Science as well as a more detailed General Comment reflecting on your child’s attitude and wider school learning throughout the year.

Please time time to share the report with your child and celebrate all they have achieved this year.

And finally…

In addition to the reports being issued next week, on Wednesday, we will be sharing the new class lists for the academic year 2021 - 2022. This will be shared via email with all parents.

Thank you once again for your amazing support during this time.

Warm regards,

 Ian Battersby and Deirdre Grimshaw
