Over the next six weeks, BIS will host the children from Ky Quang Pagoda, who will experience a range of activities around the school with the F3 children. We plan to provide a broad range of activities, from the roof to the playground, for our upcoming visits. “I am excited to play games with my new friends!” commented one child. When reflecting on the experience on child commented “I love new friends from new places”. Considering similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families and communities, is an important part of the curriculum in F3.

On Monday morning, the children waited excitedly in the playground for their new friends to arrive. After excited waves and shouts of “Xin Chao!” the children explored the playground equipment and games together. They demonstrated good climbing, balancing and swinging skills as well as playing football and basketball. After having lots of fun in the playground and building new relationships, the children shared snack and conversation with their new friends.

The Community Service Programme has over 40 projects spanning the entire student population of the school from our youngest children in the Foundation Stages to senior students in Year 13 (ages 2-18 years), integrating a range of planned community service activities throughout the curriculum.  During the school year, all EY&IC students participate in a Community Service Project which is allocated by year group and which involves collaboration with our community partners, as the children engage in playdates or school and lesson exchanges.  Through these interactions, students develop communication and social skills as well as caring, reflective and empathetic characteristics concurrent with the mission statement of BIS,HCMC.  In addition, the year group projects are complimented by a full and vibrant schedule of co-curricular activities, all of which continue to focus on students donating time and energy as they develop relationships, rather than on fundraising.

We look forward to watching friendships develop between the children and would like to thank the staff of the Ky Quang Pagoda.
