From Everest to British International School Ho Chi Minh City - from-everest-to-british-international-school-ho-chi-minh-city
From Everest to BIS HCMC Matt Dickinson, internationally renowned author, film-maker, and mountaineer visited British International School Ho Chi Minh City this week, to inspire students and staff with his stories of personal growth.

In his workshops at British International School Ho Chi Minh City this week, Matt Dickinson, internationally renowned author, film-maker, and mountaineer, revealed how it was his childhood reading that inspired him to become an adventurer in adult life.

The fiction books he read as a child of wild escapades and daring feats around the world led him on to his own action-packed career as the first British film-maker to summit Everest and make it back alive, and on to award-winning documentary work for BBC and National Geographic.

This reminds us: students, teachers and parents, of the importance of reading as a child - not just for academic growth, but for personal growth and development too.  And this essential message resonates with our focus to encourage all of our students, to foster and nurture a habit and love of reading for pleasure.

This term, at our high school, all Y7s have come into the Curve to explore the library: its learning space and rich book collection, and, this week, all Y12s have been writing book reviews to ‘Pass on the Power’ of reading to our younger reading communities in school - look out for the book review winner announcement next week!

As parents, you too can get involved in igniting a love and interest for reading for pleasure by sharing your own favourite stories with your children.  Also, at home, you can use Destiny Discover to browse through the library collections with your sons and daughters to help recommend books and support their reading choices, or, if you are not sure which books to suggest to your children, take a look at our reading lists on Destiny Discover to help guide their choices. At Secondary, all books on the reading lists are available to check out in the Curve.

‘Pass on the Power’ of reading to your children.
